Mission to Mars - Staying There OPENING QUESTIONS: Human history is filled with situations in which human beings packed up and moved from a home that was familiar to a place that was completely unknown to them. Returning to their original home was often impossible. In those instances, people were risking everything they had for a chance at a new (and presumably) better life. Pick such an instance sometime in human history before any type of mechanical transportation was available and compare that with a colonist moving to Mars for the long term. OBJECTIVE: I will work with my team to identify significant stressors on colonists moving to Mars for the long term. WORD FOR TODAY:
═══════════════════════════ Referring back to the instance you related in the opening question, contrast that with a colonist moving to Mars for the long term. ═══════════════════════════ Now let's make a list of those stressors on paper/tiles and sort them from most to least in your group. ═══════════════════════════ We've spent so much time talking about the stress and danger of going to Mars and living on Mars that the thought of doing that is often overwhelming. Having said that, there are MANY individuals who would jump at the chance to be one of the first humans in history to actually set foot on another planet. Let's see if we can change our mind sets a bit and actively explore the idea of going to Mars and what opportunities would present themselves if we do. HERE is a link to NASA's recruitment page for folks who are interested in being astronauts. |
